End of Term Arrangements

5 December 2019 (by Lisa Slight (lslight))

20th December 2019 arrangements

The end of term is quickly approaching and in-between learning, mock examinations, Reconciliation Services there are a number of ‘Christmas events’.  This is a special time for us as a faith family and as a school we will be celebrating in a number of ways.

On the 12th December 2019 the Friends of St Edmund’s are holding a Christmas disco for Years 7 and 8 from 6.30pm to 8pm.  Tickets are £2 and available from my PA, Ms Slight.

We have our Christmas Carol Concert on the 16th December 2019, 6pm, at St John’s Cathedral which all our students, staff, parents and community are invited to.  All Year 7 students, Chaplaincy Team and Senior Prefects are expected to attend.

Students have the option of a Christmas Lunch (cost £2) on the 17th December 2019 (Prefect lunch on 18th December 2019 – cost 50p).   Year 7 students will have a special early sitting (17th December) where they will be able to celebrate together as a whole year group.  Students will be required to buy a ticket in advance.

Finally, on Friday 20th December 2019 staff and students will have our Emmanuel Celebrations before leaving for the Christmas break just after 12 noon.   Students may purchase lunch/snacks during morning break only.  This is a non-uniform day where we encourage students to wear a Christmas jumper (should they wish) at a cost of £1 which will go to a chosen charity.   All lessons will obviously continue to focus on curriculum content until we break up so as to ensure that students strive to make progress.

As it is now dark in the evening/mornings please could I urge parents to check that students have lights on bikes and are wearing helmets / visible clothing.  We have recently reminded students of sensible cycling but the starting point of this is ‘being seen by motorists’ and using appropriate road safety.  Recent assemblies in KS3 have focused on this with the support of an external speaker.

The school will re-open after the Christmas break on Monday 6th January 2020 at 8.25am.  Could I please ask you to re-inforce with your child that the school does not allow haircuts below grade 2, dyed/extension hair and false nails.  New phones/devices are best kept safe at home as is new jewellery upon return.

May I thank you for your continued support and wish you a happy, peaceful and blessed Christmas.
