Letter to Year 9s

Year 9s Transition into KS4

As you are aware, we are nearing the end of Year 9 (Key Stage 3) and moving into Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11). This next step will bring new subjects, great challenges, higher expectations and even a new uniform.  Transition into Key Stage 4 is essential if children are to experience success in two years’ time.

Whilst the majority of students will start Year 10 as normal, a small number of students will be required to begin a re-integration programme prior to starting lessons. This is to ensure that there is no disruption to GCSE lessons. All GCSE subjects have an enormous amount of content/skills to be covered. Each lesson is vital if students are to cover all of the specification and be in a position to do their best. Hence, there is no room for disruption to lessons/learning.

The Key Stage 4 uniform from September and the uniform expectations will be as follows:

 Compulsory Items – all Students

  • A black blazer with teal/white braiding, embroidered with the School badge.
  • Plain black shoes with FLAT heels. Boots, suede shoes, canvass, Vans/plimsolls or trainer style shoes are NOT permitted (except trainers for PE).  Shoes should be appropriate for School use.  This rules out raised heels, casual and fashion shoes.  There should be no logos on shoes or other coloured markings.
  • Navy jumper embroidered with the school badge. Hoodies/sweatshirts/plain jumpers are NOT permitted and will be confiscated. (Autumn and Spring a jumper is compulsory).

Compulsory Items - boys

  • The School KS4 tie.
  • A plain white School shirt with either long or short sleeves. Printed coloured t-shirts or polo neck sweaters are NOT permitted even if they are worn under School shirts.
  • Black trousers (should not be skinny, tight fitting or of canvass like material).
  • Black shoes – no trainers.

Compulsory Items - girls

  • The School KS4 tie.
  • A plain white School shirt with either long or short sleeves. Printed coloured t-shirts or polo-necked sweaters are NOT permitted even if they are worn under School shirts.
  • Black pleated skirt of appropriate length and or black trousers. It is not possible to describe the trousers as there are such a wide range of options in shops it will always be difficult to be exact.  As a guide trousers should not be skinny, tight fitting or of canvass like material (cotton/polyester) or contain any zips.
  • Black or neutral tights to be worn with skirts or plain socks (white or black).

A particularly reminder to those families who are entitled to free school meals in that the deadline to utilise the school bursary will be the end of the school day on Monday 1st July 2024.
