School Prospectus

Curriculum, Aims and Policy

The most important elements of the School curriculum are as follows:

  1. To help pupils to develop moral values based upon the traditions of the Catholic Church, and to develop a high degree of tolerance for other religions, race and ways of life.
  2. To help pupils develop lively enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills.
  3. To help pupils to acquire understanding, knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a fast changing world.
  4. To help pupils to use language and number effectively.
  5. To help pupils take their place in society in an informed, positive and active way.
  6. To help pupils understand the world in which they live and the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations.
  7. To help pupils to appreciate human achievements and aspirations.

Lower School Curriculm (Years 7, 8 and 9)

Pupils follow a broad-based curriculum pattern organised to reflect the requirements of the National Curriculum, complemented with time for Personal, Social and Health Education.

This balanced combination of subjects will equip them for all possible careers and prepare them for life in the modern world. All School departments have well-qualified and experienced staff and are generously resourced.

Upper School Curriculm (Years 10 and 11)

All pupils follow a core of subjects which lead to GCSE in -

  • Religious studies
  • English Language & Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Single certification)
  • French/German and French/German with Business
  • Technology Physical Education (non-exam)

An opportunity is provided to maximise a pupil's talent and extend their curriculum experiences by selecting a further three subjects from the following (3 periods each)

  • Art & Design
  • Business Studies
  • Child Development
  • Double Science
  • Drama & Theatre Arts
  • Geography
  • History
  • LINCS
  • Media Studies
  • Music
  • Physical Education
