"It took two years to be awarded...
'FAIRTRADE SCHOOLS STATUS'
...and we are very proud to be the first school in Portsmouth City and the Diocese
to be granted this award!"
To be a Fairtrade school you must be committed to selling and promoting Fairtrade goods both in school and in the wider community.
There are 5 goals to meet and a lot of evidence to collect.
You must have a steering committee consisting of at least 50% pupils, a governor, member of the teaching and non teaching staff and a parent.
You must convince the Headteacher and the Governors that the school should adopt a policy. The policy must be in the school development plan and widely advertised in the school.
You must sell Fairtrade goods to pupils and staff and make them available at school events. You must keep all accounts and photographs of the shops as evidence.
You must have one major Fairtrade event a term, especially one during Fairtrade fortnight.
You must prove you have influenced the wider community to use Fairtrade goods. We regularly mention it in our newsletter to parents. The Royal Mail Bognor Regis and Portsmouth have agreed to using Fairtrade tea and coffee for visitors. Our Chaplain has been to a junior school in Gosport to give a talk on Fairtrade.
You must have at least three sets of lesson plans for lessons involving Fairtrade to two year groups.
To keep the Fairtrade status you must introduce something new each year.
