Senior Citizens’ Party

During the week before half-term, pupils from all years helped to prepare the food for guests at the Senior Citizens’ Party.  (We catered for 100 visitors.)

On Monday, boys from Year 8 (who had raised a considerable amount of money towards the costs of the party) made fairy cakes.  These were then frozen to keep them fresh for Thursday.

On Tuesday, Year 11 pupils made shortbread biscuits and gingerbread.  These were stored in airtight tins until needed.

The night before the party, Mrs Sage thinly skinned 18 tomatoes to make ‘roses’ to garnish the plates of sandwiches.

Four Year 10 pupils spent the morning in D4, working through the special tasks – making butterfly cakes from fairy cakes; decorating the shortbread with cream swirls and fruit; feather icing the gingerbread and cutting it into portions.  They also helped to supervise the Year 8 pupils who made over 300 sandwiches – egg and lettuce, salmon and cucumber, cheese and pickle and ham and tomato.

They then organised the individual plates which would be presented to the visitors in the afternoon.
