Dear Parents
Your sons and daughters who are in Year 9 have two very important tasks ahead of them. First of all, they need to pass the Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) in May this year with the highest possible marks. More immediately, with your support and that of their teachers, they will be choosing their curriculum pathway for the next two years..
At St Edmund’s we believe in providing the widest possible choice of options to all pupils in order to maintain their motivation and interest towards gaining the best possible results from their education with us. At St Edmund’s we endeavour to tailor the curriculum to meet individual pupil needs.
This year we are pleased to be able to offer more Apprenticeship Courses, as well as a wide variety of college places, some of which will be at the new Highbury City College.
As curriculum choices can be difficult to make, we will give each pupil careful guidance and support in the following ways:
An Option Market for parents and pupils
Tutor Group forums in the Library with the Careers Adviser.
A presentations from local colleges.
A presentation from Paragon Training re the Apprenticeship Courses.
A Curriculum Booklet with clear information on the courses offered and guidance on how to proceed.
An individual interview with a member of the Senior Management Team to help match each pupil’s potential with the right courses for them.
Support whenever necessary before a decision is made, by tutors, subject teachers, Director of Vocational Learning and Careers Service.
I hope that you will enjoy reading the booklet, and the lively discussions that will probably arise “en famille”.
Yours sincerely

Mrs I O’Mara, Headteacher
