Practise tests are available on the achieve site (see above). The tests are summative and will allow pupils to identify areas of weakness to help target their revision better. Good Luck from the Science Department.
Revision classes are available after school on Tuesday and Friday evenings 3.15- 4.15pm please speak to your science teachers to arrange attendance.
Year 7
Advanced notice for Year 7 for the “Science in Action” days are on 3rd and 8th July. Pupils will be off-site working with different agencies to help make science fun and to help make it relevant to them. Pupils should return the permission forms promptly to be considered.

GCSE results
Congratulations to the Year 11 pupils who achieved 54.5% A*- C in their Dual Science GCSEs this year, an improvement on last year’s results.
Present Year 11 have already achieved 45% A*- C and this is due to rise as pupils and staff work together to improve results and coursework. Initially pupils will are asked to volunteer to attend classes for one hour after school with Mr. Crossland on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Open Evening
The Open Evening was a great success and was well received by the many Year 6s who visited the department. Thanks must go to the many pupils who volunteered their time after school for the event. Pupils had opportunities to try out forensic science, check their health, burn foods to find the energy they contained and build bridges from paper.
Text Book Returns
If your child is in Year 8, 9 or 10 please can you ensure that they have returned the textbook issued last year to help with homework. This is important if we are going to provide all pupils with a book appropriate to their year.
Staff Changes
The Science department would like to wish Mr. Palmer and Mr. Styllis every success in their new placements and welcome Mr. Harris and Mr. Popely to the teaching team.
Science Club
Science club will be running after school as soon as arrangements have been put in place.

Year 7

Well done to those Year 7s involved in making the medieval siege weapons. More fun activities on Thursday after half- term!

(The Winning Team!)
‘Science in Action’ Days
In July your son/daughter will be taking part in a ‘Science in Action’ Day either on 6th or the 11th July 2007.
The aim of the day is to give pupils an insight into the range of science and engineering opportunities in the world of work and have fun at the same time! Some of the people organising the activities are already involved with St. Edmund’s through our Neighbourhood Engineers’ Group (SETNET) and the pupils will meet them at various times as they progress through the school to Year 11.
There is no charge for this activity and the whole year group will be taking part. Pupils will be going ‘off-site’ to a variety of destinations including the Naval Base and Portsmouth University. Please return the consent form to Mrs Woods in Resources - all activity venues will be within walking distance of the school.
School uniform must be worn. Protective clothing will be provided if necessary but please ensure that your child is wearing ‘closed in’ footwear for safety reasons.
All pupils will need to take a packed lunch; if entitled to free school meals this will be provided by the School kitchen.
The pupils will be dismissed from their last activity at the end of the day. If you wish your child to return to school with a member of staff at 3.00 p.m. please tick the box clearly on the attached consent form.
Year 8
Remember that there are end of year exams coming up, so please start revising.
