We have had visits by guest speakers and authors in the library. Linvoy Primus, the Portsmouth footballer, came to launch a Reading Scheme for boys to encourage them to read more. The scheme has been very successful and more and more boys are now reading for pleasure.

This picture is in Linvoy’s new book called “Transformed” and the co-author Peter Jeffs said he used it because it shows all aspects of Linvoy’s community work..
In July Malcolm Rose, author of the “Traces” series of books, came into school to work with the English and Science departments. He gave them advice on forensic medicine and crime writing for their Murder Mystery Event.
In September Beverley Naidoo visited school to work with Miss Morrison’s class. They had read two of her novels about South Africa. There was a lot of discussion about apartheid and many probing questions for Beverly to answer.
We were very privileged to have our local author James Riordan as our guest on Open Evening. He chatted to parents and pupils about his books and his upbringing in Portsmouth.

The group of pupils, who were involved in choosing the winner of the Portsmouth Book Award, went to see Marcus Sedgwick collect his prize.

He explained the research he did for his winning book, “The Foreshadowing”, and answered questions from the audience.

Mrs Shorter and a group of avid Darren Shan readers, known as Shansters, went to meet the author at Hayling Community Centre. He read extracts from his novels and introduced his new book in the “Demonata” series. In his own words he led us into his ”twisted, mind-bending world”
