Examination Board: AQA
Coursework: 60% of final mark
The examination is a combination of coursework and a practical examination.
Coursework is produced in the form of completed assignments chosen by the student at the end of the course.
The Art course is broad based and is not intended to restrict the choice of materials or the breadth of the work undertaken.
The course will include the following:
Visual perception and draughtsmanship in drawing
image making in various media
using a variety of tools, equipment and materials
working to a coursework project brief.
The use of Information Technology to
investigate Computer Graphics using
a variety of software.
These will include the following processes:
Drawing and painting
graphics and three dimensional work
printing work
mixed media work
You will be allowed to choose a particular area in Year 11 but this will depend on your own interest and abilities. Students who choose a particular area will be allowed to take an endorsed examination. Students who follow a more general, multi media course will take an unendorsed examination.
Both examinations are at GCSE level.
You will be expected to submit at least three pieces of work from that produced during the course. Each piece will show evidence of research, lead up work and the final piece.
The examination, an unaided piece, will be spread over 10 hours and is known as the controlled test. The examination is 40% of the final mark given.
During the course, you may be involved in a number of visits to art galleries and design centres. These will enable students to be made aware of developments in both painting and design.
The department welcomes all students, not just those who want to pursue a career that is connected with Art and Design.
